Canine Nosework is one of the fastest growing dog sports because it permits blind, deaf, and mobility challenged dogs to compete, as well as dogs that are shy or reactive. Nosework brings the fun and challenge of scent detection done by professional, military and law enforcement canines to companion dogs. Dogs are encouraged to develop their natural scent-directed hunt drive to search for certain scents – oil of birch, anise and clove – alone, or in combination, hidden in containers, vehicles, interior spaces and outside. Dogs get to do what they love to do best – find things by scent! Handlers learn how to observe and understand the subtle communication given by their dog when he/she searches for and finds the target odour. No dog training experience is necessary for the handler and no prior dog obedience training is necessary for the dog!
